Overwhelm happens to all of us, no matter how experienced we are or how much help we have. It’s part of being human, and it’s also a sign that it’s time for some changes but with the right tools, you can overcome your overwhelm and get back on track with your business goals in no time!
You can overcome your overwhelm, you just need to understand it!
You can overcome your overwhelm as long as you know how and what to do!
Understanding how your brain works is the first step in overcoming it. When we are overwhelmed, our brains go into “fight or flight” mode – our bodies produce adrenaline which makes us feel anxious and stressed out. This can lead to panic attacks if left untreated for too long – so if this happens to you regularly in business (or outside of it), seek help from a professional to help you get back on track.
If you are overwhelmed, do something about it.
Dealing with overwhelm isn’t easy. There are lots of factors that can contribute to your feeling overwhelmed, but the most important thing is to recognise the problem and take action. If you are struggling, don’t wait for things to get better on their own or for someone else to fix it for you – do something about it before it’s too late!
The art of delegation!
Delegating is a skill that takes time to master but, done well, it can help reduce stress levels and improve productivity. You need to be able to trust the person you delegate to, and they must also trust you. It could be a team member, a trusted family member/friend or you can seek help from outside sources, such as using a Virtual Assistant to help take some of the pressure off.
A good place to start is by making a list of everything that you do that could be done by somebody else. If you are struggling to think of things, keep a pen and pad on your desk then every time you do a task, ask yourself if you should have been doing it, is it an effective use of your time? If the answer is no, jot it on the pad. Do this for a week or two and then review it to work out who else could undertake those tasks for you.
Put limits on what you commit to.
In order to avoid overwhelm, it’s important to evaluate your workload and make sure that it is manageable. If there are too many tasks coming in at once, or if your clients are asking for too much from you, this could be a sign that something needs to change. You may need more help or possibly even fewer clients – but either way, it’s worth taking some time out of each day (or week) just so that everything doesn’t become overwhelming again.
Set time aside for yourself.
Set aside time for yourself every day, even if it’s just 15 minutes. It’s important to do something that allows you to relax and de-stress. For example:
- Take a walk
- Meet a friend for a coffee.
- Meditate or exercise (if possible).
- Read a book or listen to music–anything that helps bring down your stress levels
